Kulturbüro Sachsen e.V. (KBS)
Kulturbüro Sachsen e.V. is an independent nonprofit organization. Since 2001 KBS has run the project of the Regional Mobil Consultation Teams (MBT) with the support of the federal program, CIVITAS, an "initiative against right-wing extremism in the new federal states."
KBS consists of four different teams. Three of the Mobile Counseling Teams offices are located in the Saxon region, in Neukirchen, Wurzen and Pirna. The fourth is the project management located in Dresden.
KBS advises and supports local NGOs, youth initiatives, church communities, networks as well as local governments and businesses in Saxony. The aim is to strengthen active democratic civil society and provide an alternative against everyday racism and established right-extremist structures.
"Working for a democratic culture is work against right-wing extremism"
With this motto KBS strives to strengthen the civic engagement and practice of the everyday work against right-wing extremism in communities and regions of Saxony. This helps the people to fight against tendencies that threaten democracy and economics like right-wing extremism, racism and anti-Semitism. We need a vital and courageous democratic civil society to be able to fight against deeply anchored right-extremist discourses and organizational structures.
The focus on the victims of right-extremist violence is the starting-point of the consultant practice and together with the concept of pro-active community counselling creates a basis of the MBT`s everyday work.
KBS is active in four thematic areas:
- Six consultants in three MBT teams work in everyday contact with clients in the whole Saxony
- In the Community Development project we try to support and strengthen the active people in small communities to uncover democracy threatening tendencies and in turn fight them. Our method is to support the social and cultural life in the community, e.g. by helping the people to run their own projects or by establishing meeting points for better communication in the community. We have started such a Community Development project in September 2005 in Sächsische Schweiz (communities of Rheinhardstdorf-Schöna and Bernsdorf) with the financial support from the EU program, "LEADER+".
- Our youth-help-coach offers consultation in the area of youth work by promoting the strengthening and development of democracy. His activities focus on concrete right-extremist problems as well as on methods of promoting the participation of children and young people in community life or in youth clubs and centers. The youth-help-coach is active Saxony-wide and office is located in Dresden.
- The project management in Dresden gathers the experience and outcomes of the MBTs, Community development projects, and the youth-help-coach. They then share these experiences through political lobbying, universities, educational centers, seminars, conferences and PR activities. The project management is also responsible for local, national and international cooperation.
The Mobil Consultants alone cannot bring definitive solutions. They work closely with local people, share their experience and together with them develop local conceptions of change.
Success-stories:
- Seminar "Living Courage" for the drivers of the Leipzig Public Transport Company (Leipziger Verkehrsbetrieben)
- Support of the local network "Pro Zivilcourage Aue"
- New conception of the youth work in the community of Bernsdorf (consultations in: youth work, school, networking)
